Este documental de Lucas Gallo integrado exclusivamente por la cobertura que realizó el canal gubernamental de la época (ATC) de la Guerra de Malvinas en 1982 y del penoso programa televisivo especial Las 24 horas por Malvinas,  constituye un demoledor recordatorio de uno de los momentos más perversos de la última dictadura cívico-militar, cuando  la Argentina más cerca estuvo del fascismo, mediante una irresponsable aventura bélica por la cual el general Leopoldo Galtieri, al frente de la tercera junta militar,  buscaba, mediante ese giro fascista, perpetuarse en un poder que comenzaba a flaquear y que terminó por decretar su final merced a la reacción británica y de EE.UU.

Un ejemplo contundente de lo que ahora llamaríamos “blindaje mediático” que sin embargo refleja con elocuencia los vergonzosos fervores patrioteros de la época (mediáticos y de la gente común) y la trágica trampa de una dictadura genocida que costó la vida de centenares de jóvenes argentinos.

El documental de Lucas Gallo se halla integrado exclusivamente por la cobertura de la invasión y ocupación de las Islas Malvinas en 1982 que realizaron los noticieros de ATC, la televisión estatal de la tercera etapa de la dictadura cívico-militar argentina encabezada por el general Leopoldo Galtieri,  por parte de sus fuerzas, en una improvisada e irresponsable aventura bélica a partir de la cual Galtieri buscaba, mediante un giro fascista, perpetuarse en un poder que comenzaba a flaquear y que terminó por decretar su final merced a la reacción británica y de EE.UU.

Para el espectador argentino que vivió esa época, el documental resulta durísimo, demoledor, e implica reencontrarse con una serie de personajes nefastos y uno de los momentos más perversos y angustiantes de la dictadura. El noticiero central de la época se llamaba 60 minutos y era conducido por José Gómez Fuentes (con un estilo muy semejante al de algunos periodistas de derecha de la actualidad) y María Larreta. El único corresponsal en las islas era Nicolás Kasanzew.

También se emitió por ATC un programa especial en vivo llamado Las 24 horas por Malvinas, destinado a recaudar fondos para la guerra, conducido por los dos más famosos animadores de la época, Pinky (cuya oratoria pone los pelos de punta) y Cacho Fontana y por donde desfilaron algunas de las figuras más populares de la época (no diré cuáles: hay que ver el documental  para sorprenderse o indignarse de nuevo). 

Pare del material luce por momentos una precariedad panfletaria digna del programa televisivo del humorista Capusotto.

Lo que ahora se llamaría “blindaje mediático” era total, en cuanto al verdadero curso de los acontecimientos.  No obstante, se desprende de las imágenes el vergonzoso apoyo de una parte de la población a la aventura de Galtieri, en algunos casos con fervores patrioteros dignos de un partido de fútbol, haciendo caso omiso de la calaña del personaje y su gobierno y con una ingenuidad que parecía desconocer que el Reino Unido jamás renunciaría a la posesión de una de sus colonias, en esta trágica trampa de una dictadura genocida que costó la vida de centenares de jóvenes argentinos.

This documentary by Lucas Gallo made up exclusively of the coverage made by the government channel of the time (ATC) of the Malvinas War in 1982 and of the painful special television program Las 24 hours por Malvinas, constitutes a devastating reminder of one of the most perverts of the last civic-military dictatorship, when Argentina was closest to fascism, through an irresponsible war adventure for which General Leopoldo Galtieri, at the head of the third military junta, sought, through this fascist turn, to perpetuate himself in a power which was beginning to waver and ended up decreeing its end thanks to the British and US reaction.

A striking example of what we would now call “media shielding” that nevertheless eloquently reflects the shameful jingoistic fervors of the time (media and common people) and the tragic trap of a genocidal dictatorship that cost the lives of hundreds of young Argentines .Review:

Lucas Gallo's documentary is made up exclusively of coverage of the invasion and occupation of the Falkland Islands in 1982 by ATC news, the state television of the third stage of the Argentine civic-military dictatorship headed by General Leopoldo Galtieri , on the part of his forces, in an improvised and irresponsible war adventure from which Galtieri sought, through a fascist turn, to perpetuate himself in a power that was beginning to waver and that ended up decreeing its end thanks to the British and US reaction. 

For the Argentine viewer who lived through that time, the documentary is extremely hard, devastating, and implies meeting a series of nefarious characters and one of the most perverse and distressing moments of the dictatorship. The central newscast of the time was called 60 minutes and was hosted by José Gómez Fuentes (with a style very similar to that of some right-wing journalists today) and María Larreta. The only correspondent on the islands was Nicolás Kasanzew.

A special live program called Las 24 hours por Malvinas, aimed at raising funds for the war, was also broadcast by ATC, hosted by the two most famous entertainers of the time, Pinky (whose oratory makes the hair stand on end) and Cacho Fontana and where some of the most popular figures of the time paraded (I will not say which ones: you have to see the documentary to be surprised or outraged again).

Some material at times shows a precarious pamphlet worthy of the comedian Capusotto TV show.

What would now be called "media shielding" was total, in terms of the true course of events. However, the images show the shameful support of a part of the population for Galtieri's adventure, in some cases with jingoistic fervors worthy of a football match, ignoring the ilk of the character and his government and with a naivety that seemed unaware that the United Kingdom would never renounce the possession of one of its colonies, in this tragic trap of a genocidal dictatorship that cost the lives of hundreds of young Argentines.
