Moving On

Un padre , su hija adolescente y su hijo pequeño se mudan a la casa del padre de él, un anciano enfermo para pasar con él el verano. Si bien uno de los motivos sería el cuidado del anciano, lo cierto también es que la situación económica del padre es precaria (vende zapatillas en la calle) y no puede costearse ya una vivienda. Se agrega luego al grupo familiar la hermana del padre, una tía con muy buena relación con sus sobrinos y con una crisis conyugal.

Con el título original de algo así como Hermanos en una noche de verano, en esta su ópera prima la directora coreana Yoon Dan-bi retrata la vida cotidiana de esta familia temporalmente ensamblada, que encara como puede, con un espíritu entre resignado (y entre depresivo y rebelde en el caso de la hija adolescente) un futuro ciertamente incierto en lo económico y en lo afectivo, con una ausencia de la madre de los chicos que se va haciendo sentir.

La realizadora muestra amor por sus criaturas, pero el naturalismo extremo de la película, que abunda en escenas que no contribuyen al desarrollo de una progresión dramática (progresión que seguramente tampoco se propuso la directora)  y el asordinamiento y  la desactivación casi inmediata de las situaciones de conflicto personalmente me sumergieron varias veces en el más absoluto tedio. Y eso que en la película pasan cosas importantes.

Obtuvo el Premio Especial del Jurado del 35 Festival Internacional de Cine de Mar del Plata.

A father, his teenage daughter and their young son move into the house of his father, a sick old man, to spend the summer with him. Although one of the reasons would be to take care of the elderly, the truth is that the father's economic situation is precarious (he sells shoes on the street) and he can no longer afford a home. Then the father's sister is added to the family group, an aunt with a very good relationship with her nephews and with a marital crisis.

With the original title of something like Brothers on a Midsummer Night, in this her debut feature the Korean director Yoon Dan-bi portrays the daily life of this temporarily assembled family, which faces as best it can, with a spirit between resigned (and between depressive and rebellious in the case of the adolescent daughter) a future that is certainly financially and emotionally uncertain, with an absence of the children's mother who is making herself felt.

The director shows love for her creatures, but the extreme naturalism of the film, which abounds in scenes that do not contribute to the development of a dramatic progression (a progression that the director surely did not intend either) and the almost immediate muffling and deactivation of situations Conflict personally plunged me several times into absolute boredom. And that important things happen in the movie.

He was awarded the Special Jury Prize at the 35th Mar del Plata International Film Festival.
